The sponsors decided to register the Club as a company to be called the “The Islamabad Club”. The Company was registered on 22nd February 1968, as a limited company and was incorporated under the Companies Act of 1963.
An area of 244.8 acres of land was leased to the Club by Capital Development Authority for construction of the Club House, an eighteen hole Golf Course and other sports facilities. In 2008, an additional 102 acres were leased to the club for development of an additional nine holes for the golf course and a polo ground.
First elections for the Club’s first Management Committee were held on 15 August, 1968.Mr.S.M Yusuf was elected as the President and Mr.Shaharyar M.Khan as the Honorary Secretary of the Club. Nine other committee members were also elected.
Sports facilities comprising 4 Tennis courts and nine holes Golf Course were opened by the President of Pakistan, Field Marshal Muhammad Ayub Khan on 5th November 1967
The Golf Pavilion was inaugurated by Air Marshal M Asghar Khan on 26 March, 1968.Additional sports facilities comprising 3 Squash Courts and a Swimming Pool were inaugurated by General Agha Muhammad Yahya Khan the President of Pakistan on 13th August, 1969.
The Club Cinema/Badminton hall was donated by the Ruler of Abu Dhabi. This facility was named the “Sheikh Zahid Hall” and inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Zahid Bin Sultan al Nayyan,the Ruler of Abu Dhabi on 21st Jan,1970. In 2007,the Ruler of Abu Dhabi donated a building to house a covered pool and gymnasium.
Due to various factors the Club persistently showed operating losses necessitating Government subsidies to offset the losses. In 1978,through the Presidential Ordinance No.XXXIII of 17th July 1978,the Club ownership was resumed by the Government and the Company was dissolved. The Club is now being run under the said Ordinance. |
